Kisumu residents have demanded for more police posts to be stationed in the estates and major bus stages.
The residents are also demanding for more frequent police patrols in crime prone areas especially during night hours.
Speaking to our reporter, Kisumu City Residents Voice association chairman Audi Ogada lamented that the lakeside city was getting more prone to crime every day.
Ogada noted that residents from Nyalenda, Manyatta ,Obunga,Polyview,Ogango and Riat areas have been complaining of frequent crime in the areas.
“We cannot have our residents complaining of insecurity when we can have the police patrolling in the areas at night. We should also have many police posts in the wards as the major police stations located far away from the residents. This instills fear in our residents,” said Ogada.
Audi further said that the police have been hesitant on patrolling in estates within the town.
Manyatta Youth Bunge Chairman Benson Onoka noted that Manyatta area has been a crime prone area for a long time but expressed optimism that the area’s insecurity could be enhanced after the City management erected floodlights in the area.
“At least there is good lighting in Manyatta, which even makes it easier for the police to patrol the area at night. More frequent patrols however, will help enhance security in Manyatta,” said Onoka.
