Kisumu residents have asked the county government to ensure the meat sold in butcheries within the town is inspected.

Kisumu City Residents’ Voice Association chairman Audi Ogada said most of the meat sold to residents especially within the town’s estates was not being thoroughly inspected.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday at Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground in Kisumu, Audi asked the County Executive Committee member for Health and Health Services Dr Elizabeth Ogaja to ensure that inspection of meat sold to residents was fit for human consumption.

Also present was his Manyatta Youth Bunge counterpart Benson Onoka who said that residents living in the outskirts of town have been left to consume meat that has not been inspected.

“It is not right for residents living out of town to be left to consume meat that has not been inspected and tested. We now have a county government in place that should ensure that residents are protected from things that may affect them negatively,” he said.

The residents challenged the county government to inspect the slaughterhouses within the county to ensure that only healthy animals were being slaughtered.

They also demanded that action be taken against those found selling unhealthy meat to residents.
