Self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna jetted back to the country on Monday but was detained at the airport.
His detention elicited mixed reactions from Kisumu locals who noted Miguna was handled in a manner that did not befit him.
“That was very disrespectful of General Miguna Miguna a hero in this country. The government mishandling him speaks a lot. This is how we chase away investors,” Jasper Midwood explained.
A section of other residents asked Opposition leader Raila Odinga to dump Jubilee for treating Miguna Miguna indecently.
“We want Baba now out of Jubilee and Uhuru’s government. This people cannot be trusted at all. If they can handle Miguna Miguna this way means it is a matter of time before they handle Raila too,” Stated Christine Mogaka.
Davis Oloo noted that the government ought to apologize to Miguna for treating him indecently.
“We are all Kenyans and we have rights, Miguna Miguna is a Kenyan citizen by birth and that is enough for him to be granted freedom into the country. The way he was handled at the Airport describes the type of leaders we have in the country. This country is controlled by cartels that have infiltrated every industry including our very own Airports. The state should apologize and compensate Miguna Miguna,” Rael Sang opined.
Others, however, said Miguna deserved the treatment he received after landing at the airport on Monday.
"Miguna Miguna is an enemy of the State. You cannot take part in an illegal oath and expect to be treated with respect by the government. You brought all this upon yourself. Just go back to Canada,”Vincent Befa said.
“If only you stopped playing hero and work with Uhuru like Raila did then you would be a free man but up to now, your pride and mouth will be your biggest downfall,” Leonard Nyongesa noted. T
