Kisumu residents are set to benefit from cheap Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) after the National Oil Corporation (NOC) earmarked Kisumu County as one of the beneficiaries of the National LPG enhancement plan.
NOC Senior Strategic Planning Officer, Kevin Omenya, said that under the project, 1.2 million discounted LGP cylinders are expected to be distributed in the County in a period of three years.
He disclosed that a 6kg gas cylinder would cost Sh2,275 under the new project and would benefit individuals earning Sh20,000 and less to embrace clean energy, reduce deforestation and indoor pollution.
Speaking Wednesday during a sensitisation meeting with Chiefs from the county, he said apart from improving the quality of life, the project would also empower women and youth who would be brought on board to merchandise the discounted cylinders.
Area County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed said the scheme which will be launched on July 1, was part of the national government’s lead projects enshrined in the Vision 2030.
