Kisumu residents are set to benefit from improved medical services after the county government paid shipping costs for medical equipment from the United States.

Speaking on Friday, Governor Anyang' Nyong'o noted that his government had paid Sh6 million to cater for shipping costs for the consignment from the World Medical Relief.

The equipment is estimated to be worth Sh35 million.

According to Health Executive Rosemary Obara as quoted by Standard, the consignment includes; X-ray machines, surgical and neurosurgical equipment, life support machines as well as diagnostic equipment. 

Once the equipment gets to Kisumu, residents will no longer have to travel outside the city to seek medical services

Meanwhile, Governor Nyong'o on behalf of the County Government of Kisumu on Thursday signed an MOU with Victoria Development Company for the construction of level 7 Victoria Hospital and Cancer Centre.

The collaborative initiative that will be built on Public Private Partnership arrangement and whose discussions have been ongoing for a while now is expected to commence in about 3 months and completed within 2 years.

The 250-bed hospital will comprise of General Medicine, Renal Unit, a Cardio center; a funeral parlor, a doctors' plaza, a nursing school, and a five-star hotel. 

Once it starts operating, the facility will lighten the load for other public hospitals which are always flooded with passengers.
