Residents of Kisumu town and its environs are in line to receive two day free cancer screening services.

The services will be offered on the 17th and 18th of this month, during a free cancer screening camp at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), known to many as Russia.

The services to be offered include breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer and throat cancer screening and treatment where possible.

Others are nutrition, blood sugar screening and health talk among others. The camp will be open from 8am to 4pm for the two days.

Mr. Lamech Oyoo Ocholla who is the Kisumu Cancer Camp Organizing Secretary said their major aim is to carry out awareness on the important of screening for early detection of cancer in order to aid early treatment.

“We intend to deliver the message of screening to the people of Kisumu as the only path of treating cancer as early as possible,” he said on Wednesday.

The camp will be organized by JOOTRH, in conjunction with other likeminded organizations among them Angamiza Cancer Kenya, Africa Cancer Foundation, Tumaini la Maisha Health Services, Aga Khan Health Services, Child Fund and Plan International.
