Speaking on phone yesterday, Kisumu City Residents Voice Chairman Audi Ogada said there are so many officers manning the roadblocks.

Ogada said most robberies within the city are done around 8-9pm yet by 6pm the roadblocks are full of officers.

He said the officers should be reduced at the roadblocks to allow some to patrol instead of flocking there.

“We want police to come out by intensifying patrols both day and night within the city”, he said.

Ogada said currently cases of increased insecurity within the city and its environs are being witnessed hence the need to enhance patrol to boost security in various areas considered as hot spots.

“This can be achieved if the three Road blocks at Mamboleo, Kisumu-Busia Road and along Kisumu-Nairobi Road are reduced”, said the chairman.

Various residents have risen complains of insecurity barely four days after the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology Lecturer Dave Achieng’ was shot dead at his gate on Saturday night.

The lecturer was shot by thugs as he waited for his gate to be opened at his residence next to Mamboleo Estate.

Ogada said they need the police to show the Kisumu people how many cases of carjacking they have taken to court.

“I am challenging the police to show on their records how many people have been arrested and taken to court for the past three months specifically on carjacking cases,” he said.
