With focus now shifting to 2022 after bruising political battles in 2017, Kisumu Senator Fred Outa has set his eyes on the gubernatorial seat and is seen as the front runner to succeed Governor Anyang' Nyong'o when he retires.
However, questions have been raised on Outa's ability to transform the county and improve service delivery to the residents of Kisumu.
Elsewhere, Siaya Senator James Orengo is said to be eyeing the county's Governorship in 2022 when the term of the current county boss Cornel Rasanga comes to an end.
However, according to controversial blogger Robert Alai, Outa and Orengo have no development credentials to transform the two Nyanza counties and should therefore not be elected as governors.
"JamesOrengo already campaigning to be Siaya Governor as a retirement package while Fred Outa wants to grab the Kisumu governorship. These people are not interested in seeing these areas develop. There is no benefit Orengo and Outa will bring to Nyanza," Alai said in a post on his Facebook page.
"Orengo was the Lands Minister for how many years? Did you ever hear Orengo empower the populations with title deeds or digitized land records? I have respect for Orengo but when you follow him closely, he is best being a lawyer in court but not leading people with serious problems. Our people need serious help to improve their lifestyles. Orengo and Outa are not people you can rely on," he added.
Outa, 54, served as Nyando MP for two terms before being elected second Kisumu Senator. On his part, Orengo, a veteran in Nyanza politics ,was first elected Ugenya lawmaker in 1980. He won the seat again in 1992, 1997 but lost in 2002. He made a comeback in 2007 before being elected first Siaya Senator in 2013 and recaptured the seat in 2017.
