Kisumu County Director of Education Sabina Aroni says the implementation of the new curriculum in schools within the county will go on without compromising the quality of education.
Aroni said schools in the county are ready for the take-off of the new curriculum “once its actual implementation kicks off”. She said piloting of the programme had been done in selected schools in Kisumu and teachers adequately trained on the new system, which is expected to start from classes one to three.
The director expressed confidence that a complete rollout of the system in the schools within the county will be a success, an exercise that will be overseen by curriculum development officers supported by the Teachers Service Commission and quality assurance officers. “We remain positive that its implementation will go on without major hitches,” Aroni said. “My office has not received any complaints from stakeholders against the rolling out of the system,” she added.
Headteachers in the county have also welcomed the 2-6-6-3-curriculum rollout in their schools. MM Shah Primary School headmaster Marcellus Okweya and his Victoria Primary School counterpart Edward Omala said their schools are ready for a new education system.
Omala, however, wants Education ministry officials to explain how learning should continue amid implementation of the new system. “We have been left guessing whether to advise the parents to buy new textbooks or not because there is no proper communication from the Education ministry.
“Suspense over the implementation of the new education system has caused total confusion in our schools as learning cannot go on effectively until we get clear guidance,” he said.
