Street children living on the streets of Kisumu have appealed to both the county and national governments, as well as well-wishers to rescue and rehabilitate them.The street kids said they are willing to be enrolled in school if given the opportunity.Philip Omari from Kakamega County said he was forced to abandon his home after his mother died and his father married another wife. He said living with the stepmother was unbearable that is why he opted to go the streets.“I would welcome any help even if it means being enrolled in school. I promise to take my studies seriously,” said Omari.Ian Odenyi from Vihiga County said the death of his father and mother left him with no other option but to leave his home and come to Kisumu.“The government should really help us. We have no clothes, food and a place to live. Some of us do not even know their homes,” he said.The two boys aged between 10 and 13 years are among hundreds of children who have it rough on the streets of Kisumu and other major towns in the country.Agapechildren.org revealed that children end up on the streets due to a variety of reasons.
