The Kisumu street lighting project is a joint investment undertaken by Kenya Power and the county government and not individual politicians.

Kenya Power Kisumu City Business Manager Erick Ohaga on Friday said the street lighting project being undertaken in all the estates is a partnership between Kenya Power and the Kisumu County government.

"We have reports that some politicians are using the lighting project as a campaign tool for the 2017 general elections, I would like to assure the public it is a project between Kenya Power and the county government. No individual politician has funded this initiative," said Ohaga.

Ohaga said that Kenya Power is acting as an implementing agency in the whole project.

"All the funds are coming from the county government, all we do is get the best equipment and install the lights," added Ohaga.

Ohaga urge the public to be on the look for politicians who have done nothing but want to take credit for projects they did not initiate.

Ohaga was speaking in Kisumu during the county government service delivery committee meeting.

Earlier, MCAs and MPs from the area, had been asking for votes from the people on the grounds that had brought street lights which had improved the economy of the area and boosting security.
