He noted that together with the National Housing Corporation (NHC), Lapfund, and Kenya Railway they have set up a team that will help resolve long standing issues on lands and estates within the county.

“It is clear that there is need to form working committees to aid in processing land issues that will ensure Kisumu residents have access to quality affordable housing,” Nyong'o said.

The governor noted that they further discussed the Sh525,126,418 debt owed to NHC by the county government, that would ensure successful transfer of Arina Estate, and the failure to relinquish all other estates such as Makasembo to Lapfund.

Governor Nyong'o was in the company CeC for Lands, housing, and Physical Planning Nerry Achar who assured that his administration will recognize the 2010 agreement, and settle the debt into equity with the concept of putting up new, and modern high rise apartments or social facilities for the residents.

Lapfund CEO noted that his institution has set aside money to develop Makasembo, and are ready to work with the current development plan once the transfer is complete.

Kenya Railways boss Patrick Nzomo also confirmed their willingness to partner with the County Government for the planning and zoning of the city and the development of modern mixed housing units.
