Kisumu residents are set to benefit from a Sh1.7 billion oil terminal that has just been completed in the region.
Speaking during an interview with Smart Company, Kenya Pipeline Managing Director Joe sang noted that the facility will load vessels of up to 4.5 metric tonnes of fuel.
The pipeline boss further stated that the terminal will target local market around the Lake region and expanding the exports to neighboring countries of Uganda, mines in northern Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Eastern DRC.
“It will also enhance safety because marine transportation of fuel is safer than road because there will be reduced tanker accidents, fuel fires, siphoning hence saving lives and conserving our environment,” Said Sang as stated by Daily Nation.
The project was engineered by Southern Engineering Company ( SECO) and financed by the Kenya Pipeline Company.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o noted that the multi-billion jetty will benefit the locals since it will create direct employment for the residents.
