The Kisumu County government will hold this year's Fish Festival for three days in a row contrary to the past when the event would be held for only a day.
The event, also known as the Fish Fiesta is a celebration of the fishing culture and is usually used to promote fish eating.
In a statement, Governor Prof Anyang Nyong'o's office said on Thursday: "We recognise that our fish cuisine is renowned nationally and internationally. So we have decided to celebrate it at a Fish Fiesta over the Easter period."
The celebrations are organised by the County through the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Art and Culture under the stewardship of Chief Executive Committee member Achie Alai.
Celebrations will kick off on March 29 and end on March 31 at the popular Hippo Point.
"The Fish Fiesta is generally a celebration to appreciate the fishing culture that the lake region is always associated with. We will also have our local vegetables that are nutritious and delicious," the statement further read.
"We look forward to hosting you all. Come have fun over the holidays to celebrate and enjoy fish as the Kisumu family at Hippo Point Kisumu.
The three-day activities include entertainment, food and drinks as well as a fish exhibition aquarium. There will also be a children's fun corner and sun downer cruises in Lake Victoria.
