Traders at Obunga area in Kisumu County have appealed for help after a fire razed down over 30 shops in the area on Friday night. The traders led by Philip Ochieng' asked the Kisumu county government and well-wishers to help them raise funds to rebuild the shops."We lost everything because the fire broke at night when we had retired to bed. We have no place to go and we depend on our businesses to feed our families and pay school fees for our children. Well-wishers, as well as the national and county governments, should help us raise funds to rebuild the shops and start business afresh," said Ochieng'. Nancy Akoth, a trader in the area, said over Sh5 million property was reduced to ashes by the fire."It is a huge loss for us since nothing was salvaged. We really need help to start our businesses afresh," said Akoth. On his part, Kisumu County police commander John Kamau urged the traders to be patient and wait for the government to compensate them. "We have launched investigations to establish the cause of fire though we suspect it was caused by a jiko that was left unattended. Traders are advised to be patient as the government works on processing their compensation," said Kamau.
