Traders in Kisumu have been urged to pay taxes to boost service delivery.
County Council officer Margaret Adongo said traders had devised a way of evading paying taxes yet they expect delivery of services by the County government.
“Some of the traders in the market have devised dubious methods of playing hide and seek with the officers to evade payment of taxes yet most of them are very vocal in demanding services,'' she said.
Speaking at Kibuye market Adongo said traders were forming chains and using phone calls to warn one another against paying taxes.
“I want to warn those playing hide and seek with the officers’ that your day will come and don’t blame anybody for you will face the real hand of the law,'' she said.
The traders where however quick to respond to the official.
“Why should I toil and suffer on hot sun here at the market and someone just wants easy money? I know the money ends in the hands of some few individuals,'' said Peter Adour.
