Kisumu Central Business District Chairman Anthony Kwach said on Wednesday that business community should be taxed on a monthly basis.

"We are requesting the county government to shift the receipt issue to curb corruption so that we pay on monthly basis," said Kwach.

He added: "Traders can pay directly at the county hall so that there's accountability. As you are aware theres low revenue collection compared to the former municipal council."

Kwach has suggested that hawkers can pay sh.300 especially the ones walking around the bus park.

"The street vendors can pay between Sh 500 to Sh 600. This can be achieved after doing census to know the total number of hawkers in Kisumu CBD," he said.

He added: "This will help estimate the revenue collection within Kisumu CBD. In the long run increase efficiency and increase the revenue collections."

Kwach asked the county government to commission modern stalls for small businesses.

"We request the county government development the site behind Ojino Okewo Street and around Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground. He promised us there will be proper planning budgeting for the area for modern structures," Kwach said.
