Kisumu business community want to be involved in any plans to clean the city, saying business thrives in a clean environment. They now want to partner with the county government to enter into agreements to enable them to help clean the town. “The private sector is ready to work with the county any time to ensure that the city is clean,” executive secretary Ben Kitoto said. They said they want to be part of the team that cleans and beautifies the city. Kitoto said that the partnerships were needed to ensure that the city improves and stays at the top. He said that the private sector will work with the county to ascertain how much should be put into cleaning and how best to achieve that. Kisumu County government has struggled with the issue of waste management for a long time. “Some private organisations can be given some streets to man and plant flowers there. The company will then be tasked to ensure the street is always clean,” Kitoto said. His Kisumu County Business Coalition counterpart Israel Agina said that the private sector would partner with the county in all deals to clean the city. “Business thrives in a clean environment and as the private sector, we would be very happy to lend our corporate hand in the cleaning initiatives by the county,” he said.
