A woman is in police custody after she claimed her daughter died at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, only for the child to be found alive at their home.
Emily Anyango claimed that her daughter, Violet Auma, died at the hospital after she failed to raise Sh10,000 allegedly demanded by doctors for an operation.
Anyango claimed the surgery was to remove a Sh20 coin her 8-year-old daughter swallowed.
She was arrested on Friday evening and is detained at Kondele Police Station.
Anyango said Kisumu Town East MP Shakeel Shabbir had accepted to pay the hospital bill after she approached him for assistance.
The MP visited the hospital to make the payment, but the woman told him the child had passed on.
Kisumu Central OCPD Peter Omwana said they carried out investigations into the matter, visited Anyango’s home, and found out the child was never sick as claimed.
“We are holding her for giving out false information. She will be arraigned in court on Monday. The child is with the Children department,” the OCPD told Nation.
