Speaking in Chemelil during a tour to inspect local projects on Tuesday, Elizabeth Ominde, said that cancer has been claiming a lot of lives lately and early screening can be a solution to saving many lives.

“Cancer is now a major threat and we should not sit around and wait for it to advance to late stages. I urge women from this county to take the first step and go for screening,” said Ominde.

Ominde said breast and cervical cancer are on the rise and people should not sit back and wait for disaster to strike.

She also urged women to observe better lifestyles to avert the increase of cancer cases.

“Our lifestyles are to blame for rising cases of cancer in both men and women. We should strive to eat better diets and exercise regularly to keep cancer at bay, as we know the cost of treating cancer is high and not everybody can afford it,” said Ominde.

She also challenged the central government to ensure cancer screening equipments can be easily accessed by the public.

She said that the unavailability of inadequate screening equipments was one of the reasons why people not interested in going for screening.
