Kisumu County Commissioner John Elungata has said Kisumu will not experience any form of violence during the 2017 general election.
He said a gang that is said to be operating in the town will be dealt with.
“The conflict at the bus park is more of economical than political. Kisumu people decided to move forward after the 2007/08 post-election violence and that is why it has attracted most investments as you can see, they will not allow any violence in the city,” said Elungata.
Elungata was reacting to concerns raised by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and residents over the re-emergence of gangs in Kisumu town.
Kisumu City Residents Voice Association on Thursday had said the group is just part of a wider scheme to destabilise Kisumu ahead of the 2017 general elections.
Previously, Kisumu has been perceived to be a volatile zone during elections with gangs such as Baghdad, American Marine, China and now the Israel group.
Elungata spoke to this writer on Thursday in an interview.
