Youth in Kisumu have thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for the Phase One and Phase Two Youth Empowerment Project under the National Youth Service (NYS).

The youth under Kisumu Huduma Union Sacco said  they were able to save money through the project to start up a Sacco that is now paying dividends.Led by  chairman Habil Otieno Oduor, they said that they are now able to access loans to start up businesses and various enterprises.Speaking in Obunga on Wednesday, Oduor said that out of the project that entailed cleaning various estates in Kisumu, such as Obunga, Nyalenda and Manyatta , they were able to join hands for empowerment.“We formed 21 saccos in our places of residence. We then formed the larger Kisumu Huduma Union to help members’ access loans. The loans range from Sh. 30, 000 to Sh. 300, 000,” he said.“We thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for the Phase One and Phase Two Youth Empowerment Projects in Kisumu. We would like to request him to launch the project again so that more youth can benefit,” added Oduor.The youth are now calling on President Uhuru to re-launch the project to benefit more youth.NYS empowerment project was suspended in Kisumu in 2016, after the service was rocked by a Sh791 million scandal at the national office.
