Hoteliers in Kisumu County say they have lost over Sh200 million shillings in the last one month.

This follows cancellation of conference bookings by organizations on fears of political uncertainty.

On September 13, several women were injured and property of unknown value destroyed after armed youths attacked an inter-religious peace meeting at Jumuia hotel in Kisumu County over claims that they were buying National Identification Cards to be used in the forthcoming election.

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o literally calling each and every organization that had cancelled their booking in various hotels in Kisumu County as political aftershocks hits hard the hospitality industry.

Players in the hospitality industry estimate that hoteliers have lost over 200 million shillings in the last one month as organizations keep off the town on fears that their conferences would be misconstrued politically ahead of the October polls.

Governor Nyongo wants civic organizations intending to hold conferences in the county to employ an open door policy and engage all stakeholders to avoid unnecessary suspicion.
