Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o on Tuesday accompanied East African Breweries (EABL) Managing Director Andrew Cowen in assessing progress of the infrastructure works at the EABL plant in the city.
The tour was conducted by Nick Quirke, the Project Head of Engineering who informed the two that the civil engineering works was about to end and pave way for the instrument installation.
The 100 million litres a year plant is expected to be ready by mid June with the first barrel of Senator Keg beer hitting the market in August.
The plant has undergone a complete makeover with new installations right from the production equipment to the water and affluent treatment plant making it the most efficient EABL plant.
Diageo, the mother company, is putting about Sh17 billion shillings in the investment. To meet the set target of mid June, EABL has retained the services of 481 on sight workers from different service providers working 12 hours a day.
"This mega investment is going to be a game changer in terms of employment as it seeks to recruit about 5,000 young entrepreneurs as retail outlets besides those who will be engaged in the plant," said EABL's Head of Commercials Joe Kamau.
"We are very pleased with the engagement levels and support that we have so far received from the Governor and his team that has enabled the smooth progress of the project. We look forward to closer working relationship in delivering this venture," said Cowen.
He was a accompanied by Eric Kiriti of Kenya Breweries, Gaelle Hutt, Diageo's Global Supply Excellence Director and Chris Lewis, the Transformation Director.
Nyong'o was accompanied by the CeC for Agriculture Gilchrist Okuom, Tourism and Sports CeC Achie Alai her Trade counterpart Alice Moraa and the Finance CeC Nerry Achar.
