A 28-year-old man was on Thursday arraigned in court for possession of narcotic drugs after he was arrested by the police officers in Kithimani market on Tuesday.
The police arrested him following tips from the public that he is a bhang dealer.
Patrick Kaleli who was arraigned in Kithimani second Law court is accused of being in possession of 70 rolls of bhang worth Sh 780 on April 7, 2015 with the intention of selling the illegal drugs to the public.
Speaking during the hearing, Kithimani Law court Resident Magistrate Martha Opanga cited that, “It is contrary to section 2 (a) of the Narcotics control substance Act number 4 of 1994 laws of Kenya to be in possession of the same.”
During the litigation the accused pleaded guilty to the offence.
In her ruling Opanga ordered the accused to pay a sum of Sh 20,000 or serve a jail term of 6 months.
“Following the proceeding and the plead of the accused, the court has found the accused guilty and orders him to pay a Sh 20,000 bond or serve six months in jail,” said Opanga.
Opanga further warned the public against bhang peddling stating the cases presented everyday on the same have escalated.
