Three officials from the Kitui County Government have been arrested for allegedly composing malicious stories against Governor Charity Ngilu.
The trio said to be leading a smear campaign against Ngilu with intent of defaming her were nabbed red handed 'cooking' the propaganda at a Kitui hotel on Wednesday.
They were busted by Kitui youths after a tip-off as they sat to compose their malevolent fiction that they had posted on social media minutes before they were arrested.
Phones and laptops used to spread the sleaze were seized, complete with stories they were scripting.
Informants had said the officials were making calls to Mwingi where the governor was having a function and passing on the information received for publication.
In the ensuing melee, one of the officials- Munyasya Musya escaped and resurfaced at the Kitui Police Station where he reported the incident claiming that he had been robbed of cash, phones and laptops.
The officers confessed that they had been hired by the Kitui South MP Rachael Kaki to spearhead the mischievous crusade for unspecified reasons.
In one such story, they had undertaken to work towards sending Ngilu to her Maker.
Two of the officers are on leave after their offices were closed last month at the height of the smear campaign that is characterized by insults on Governor Ngilu and other officials serving her government.
They were frog matched to the Governor’s office where Governor Ngilu called the police and handed them over.
The laptops contain past posts done in the name of Tharaka and a work-plan of spiteful content, reflective of an extreme axis of evil intentions.
The team has been working under the fictitious name of Tharaka. They include Mr Munyasya, who is the Assistant Director for Public Relations and Andrew Munywoki a communication Officer.
They were found with two other officials-Assistant Director for tourism Fednard Kathenge, his counterpart from Sports Pascal Mwanzia.
