According to mzalendo.com, an online platform that keeps tabs on the performance of MPs, 49 legislators have never said a word in parliament and 9 more have spoken less than 3 times.

Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai was named among the poor performers.

Addressing journalists in Machakos town on Sunday, Speaker to the National Assembly Justin Muturi admitted that the floor of the House is lacking the quality of debaters.

“You can tell members who don’t read bills, petitions, and reports among others. They are hardly in the House and they don’t contribute to issues. Over nine months down the line, the majority of them have no clue how they are required to behave in the Chamber and even at the committee level,” Muturi said.

Some of these poor debaters especially woman representatives were said to prefer International trips which are more lucrative and benefitial to them.

The house's leader of Majority Aden Duale (Garissa Township), Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), James Nyikal (Seme), John Mbadi (Suba South), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), Makali Mulu (Kitui Central), are among MPs who are serious with their work.
