A Kitui farmer has put Kenya in the limelight after giving an outstanding presentation in New York about how technology has helped improve her farming.
Angelina Francis was speaking during her organization presentation, 'Groots Kenya' addressing the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
The jovial Angelina could not hide her excitement citing that the technology that is aimed at helping rural women access information and share ideas on how to market their products had really impacted on her life positively.
Angelina said all her efforts would go to waste when the middlemen bought the products from her but now she can sell them using her own motorbike.
“I am proud to stand here in New York to address the CSW "Commission on the Status of Women" because of technology, despite my lack of education while I have left behind those with degrees," said Angelina who is a primary school drop out.
I am happy to say that given the opportunities and right exposure, women in rural areas can go places and do a lot to improve their living standards,’’ added Angelina as quoted by the Nation.
Angelina, a beneficiary of the technology now prides herself on being able to produce and sell maize and tomatoes in her three-acre piece of land. This has also helped her to improve her standards of living.
Others who were present were, Winrose Nyaguthii from Laikipia County, Jennifer Riria the Kenya Women Holding chief executive and Zanelle Beki who is wife to the former South Africa President Thambo Beki.
The forum held at the Armenian Convention Centre’s Guild Hall was organized by African Women’s Development and Communication Network (Femnet).
