Speaking during the launch of the Kisii County flag, Onyanka said despite most MPs from the Nyanza region supporting the referendum bill, Kenyans should not be taken to election mood as early as now.

He further pointed out that this time should be used to create awareness and educate Kenyans about the referendum.

Onyonka urged the organizers of the referendum to postpone it until 2017, so that they have enough time to prepare.

The CORD coalition re-launched the Okoa Kenya referendum bill on Thursday last week.

During the re-launch, Cord leader Raila Odinga highlighted that if the country is to be rescued from its current “downward spiral,” devolution, election reforms and security must be addressed through a constitutional amendment.

The former prime minister said giving more resources to the counties and giving some of the security mandate to local leaders are the first steps towards better governance and a safer Kenya.

The CORD coalition co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka spoke against negative ethnicity, and called on Kenyans to unite in support of the Bill and the referendum that may come in its wake.
