Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire believes the country will have credible, far and transparent polls in 2017 if its chairman Isaac Hassan resigns.
An agitated Bosire on Wednesday accused Hassan of putting the integrity of the commission into test by taking directives from Jubilee bigwigs.
Bosire also questioned the decision by IEBC to reject the 1,000,000 signatures collected by Cord in pursuit to amend the constitution through a plebiscite, arguing that the commission had been in discussion with Jubilee side following remarks by National Assembly Majority leader Adan Duale that the signatures had been forged.
“Kenya will only hold credible and transparent elections if we have an impartial chairman who cannot take instructions from either side of political divide. Hassan is now acing as a monitor to Jubilee government and he is out to gag the opposition,” Bosire told this reporter.
“His time to resign has come because it’s now evident that he wants to throw our country to chaos. The problem with IEBC is Hassan and people have seen that. He cannot make fair judgments because he takes directives from Jubilee leadership,” added the ODM treasurer.
“I am shocked that Hassan could share the information about the state of Cord’s referendum with Duale who preempted their predetermined decision. He can’t lie to the nation that Cord could collect over 700,000 uncertified signatures. Time has come for him to admit that the work is overwhelming and pass the mantle to someone else,” Bosire said.
Bosire also questioned the attitude of Hassan, accusing him of giving irrational judgments that could sabotage free, fair and transparent elections in 2017.
“He is on record for calling Cord perennial losers. That alone indicates that he is unfit to serve as chair of the commission. This man is out to bring chaos to the country because his irrational judgments alone show that Kenya will never have credible elections under his leadership,” he said.
