Njoro Member of Parliament Joseph Kiuna has faulted the ongoing vetting of police officers .
Speaking in Nakuru town on Monday, Kiuna said vetting of police officers will not help in fighting corruption.
He said that officers who have sailed through the vetting process can still indulge in corruption after the exercise and as such it would be important to ammend the constitution in order to have tough measures against culprits of corruption.
“Why vet an officer who is almost retiring.I think there is need to think of other alternatives of fighting corruption in police unit,”he said.
The law maker said the tough penalties should involve imprisonment without the option of fine.
He pointed out that it was only through this way that the general public can develop fear of indulging in corrupt deals.
Kiuna’s sentiments come a day to the start of the vetting exercise for 330 traffic police officers from Rift Valley region in Nakuru .
