Speaking on Saturday in Taita Taveta County when he donated relief food, Kiunjuri noted that the former premier is "a destructive and backward leader," who should not be given an opportunity to lead the country.

“This guy (Mr Odinga) is destructive and backward…he has become irrelevant until he cannot even explain his own rhetoric,” he said.

“He is over 70 years and hence he should retire from politics,” he added.

He also cited recent remarks allegedly made by a section of opposition alliance NASA leaders suggesting that Mr Odinga is incapable of beating President Uhuru Kenyatta during the August polls.

“Even his colleagues in the National Supper Alliance (Nasa) have asserted that Mr Odinga cannot beat President Uhuru Kenyatta in August polls, how do you expect him to win if his closest colleagues have disqualified his chances of winning elections?” Kiunjuri posed.

He defended the Jubilee administration's track record for the past four years, observing that President Kenyatta has performed exemplary.

He further urged the residents to back President Kenyatta for reelection.
