Kiunjuri, who replaced former CS Anne Waiguru in December 2015, said he may soon resign from the government to contest for an elective seat in Laikipia County.

The former Laikipia East MP said he is in consultation with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto on whether he should seek an elective seat in Laikipia or not.

"I will declare my stand on whether to run for a political seat in two weeks time," Kiunjuri said while commissioning Withare Water Community Borehole in Laikipia County on Friday.

The CS unsuccessfully contested for the Laikipia gubernatorial seat in 2013 losing to TNA's Joshua Irungu. He had contested on a Grand National Unity (GNU) party ticket.

Kiunjuri was GNU, now dissolved to join Jubilee Party, party leader.

Civil servants who wish to vie for elective seats in the August 8 polls have until February 7 to resign from public office.
