Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has put on notice National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) officials selling subsidized fertilizers to cartels.
Speaking during a visit to NCPB depots in Eldoret town on Wednesday, Kiunjuri said public officers who will be found colluding with cartels involved in purchasing and resell of the subsidized fertilizer will face the full force of the law."Any officer in charge of NCPB store who will be found selling subsidized fertilizers to cartels will be sacked and not transferred as it has been the norm. This time around is not business, as usual, I will deal with them ruthlessly," said the Agriculture."I want to urge farmers to act as our watchdog by reporting any officer involved in this menace and I promise to take stern actions against them," added Kiunjuri. With the planting season approaching, there has been growing concerns that some unscrupulous businesspersons were purchasing the subsidized fertilizer from NCPB only for them to go and repackage them resell to unsuspecting farmers at a higher price. There have always been claims that NCPB officials were colluding with cartels involved.
