Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has asked the ministry of agriculture to set up pilot collection centers to enable farmers to deliver their produce.
This follows reports that the National Cereals and Produce Board depots in Eldoret town and Moisbridge trading center are full.
Speaking when he hosted agriculture cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, Mandago also asked the government to increase maize price to sh3,500 to facilitate farmer's transportation costs to other NCPB depots.
NCPB has been advising farmers to deliver their produce to Kisumu, Bungoma, and Nairobi which are not yet full.
The Governor further asked the cereals board to regain ownership of stores that had been leased to businessmen and private firms with anticipation that production could have dropped this year following fall armyworms invasions and prolonged drought.
He also warned individuals selling subsidized fertilizers saying any public officer who will be found involving in fraud will be sent home.
Similar sentiments which were echoed by the Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri who pledged to work closely with the county government to end the menace.
"We are ready to dismiss any officer involving in fraud," said Kiunjuri who directed that surplus maize at Eldoret NCPB be taken to Bungoma depot for farmers from North Rift region to deliver their maize.
He also assured farmers who have delivered their produce that they will be paid before the end of next week.
He also asked that farmers who have supplied maize to NCPB be allowed to take subsidized fertilizer and pay once they get payments for the maize delivered.
