Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has issued a strong warning to the Standard newspaper over a story the paper reported on Sunday indicating that the CS is under investigation.
The paper had alleged that Kiunjuri was being investigated for abuse of office and corruption related issues by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission."Please go and withdraw that story. I do not want to pursue you in court but if you do not, then I will have no option but to seek legal redress. I have already written a protest letter to your editors and I have not seen my demands addressed," said Kiunjuri on Tuesday at the Treasury building in Nairobi.Kiunjuri noted that the paper was 'not like other gutter press that carries unverified stories and rumours'.He added that he is ready to forgive the paper and move forward if the story is withdrawn."The journalist who did that you are misusing the opportunity you are given by your employer. It is very bad. I know this journalist by name. He is a bit senior at the Standard but it doesn't matter. If you put your fingers in my eyes, God is my witness, I can be able to fight back. I am a peaceful man but I don't like being provoked to war," he said.He said he will not shy at all to have the media house withdraw the said story. The CS was giving an update on the planned swearing-in ceremonies for governors across the country.
