Speaking to a group of teachers in the area on Wednesday morning, Okelo observed that the government itself over spends and abets corruption, where billions of tax payers’ money is lost in the hands of corrupt people, yet it claims it has no enough money to pay its employees, including teachers.

“I fully support teachers in their demand for an increase in pay. This government is not sincere. We know the government spends a lot of money on unnecessary things,” said Okelo.

“It cannot claim it has no money to pay its employees yet we see a lot of money in some projects that we do not understand, the teachers’ demands are valid,” said the Orange Democratic Movement Member of the County Assembly.

The MCA further observed that the teachers have a constitutional right to go on strike to demand for their rights including better pay.

He said the opposition was strongly in support of teachers and other government employees’ demands for better pay, because the rising cost of living demands for that.
