Speaking to this writer Friday, Kisumu Residents’ Voice Association chairman Audi Ogada said that the town’s drainage is very poor with burst sewer lines in most parts of the town.

Audi noted that the sewerage normally flows into the nearby Lake Victoria hence adding to the already existing pollution in the lake.

“Already, there is the current pollution being caused by car wash businessmen on the lake shores and we really need to reduce on the pollution,” said Audi.

“We cannot have fresh and raw sewerage flowing directly into the lake and that is why Kiwasco needs to build more treatment plants around the town so that we can have the sewerage treated first before being converted to other use,” added Audi.

Nyalenda ‘B’ MCA James Were asked the county government to help fund the construction of the sewerage treatment plants to aid faster and more efficient construction of the plants.

“We really need to protect the fish among other things so that we can bring back the life in our lake,” said Were.
