Speaking to the press at Social Hall on Wednesday, Kisumu Residents’ Voice Association chairman Audi Ogada said that the rains in Kisumu have caused free flow of sewage in the estates.

Audi said that there was need to ensure that the water was adequately treated to curb infections in the water pipes.

“During rainy seasons, sewerage services are normally poor in this town and this is normally dangerous especially to young children as they are prone to be infected with cholera and typhoid,” he said.

“Kiwasco should therefore ensure that the water running down the pipes is treated well to curb such infections during the rainy season,” added Audi.

His sentiments were echoed by his Manyatta Youth Bunge counterpart Benson Onoka, who said that most of the water pipes had burst in the area following the rains that had started recently.

“Many water pipes are either blocked or burst and this is really dangerous during the rainy seasons and this is a health hazard to the residents,” he said.

“Since Kiwasco does not know all the burst water pipes, the only way to be safe is to treat the water well,” he added.
