The security firm's employee was supposed to deliver the money to Trust Bank in Nairobi from Nyali, Mombasa before vanishing moments after landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Confirming the incident, JKIA police boss Rono Bunei said the hunt for the suspect identified as Hudson Nyasaka was ongoing by press time.

“By the time they came to report, the man had alighted and left the airport. We are looking for him," said Bunei.

Nyasaka had informed his colleagues that he would land at 9.30am but data indicate that he landed at 7.30am.

“He had arrived aboard a Fly 540 flight and it seems he misled his colleagues who were to pick him. He had told them to expect him at Terminal 1 but he landed at Terminal 2. He then switched off his phone to avoid being traced,” said Bunei.

The money was in foreign currencies of 90,000 Swiss Franc, USD 50,000 and 98,500 Euros.
