The Kenya maritime authority (KMA) has began the process of seeking a new director general two and half years later after the exit of the Shipping and Maritime Affairs principal secretary Nancy Karigithu.

In a notice published on Tuesday, the body has asked those interested people to begin the application process.

“The director-general shall be responsible for day-to-day management and operations and shall have control over all personnel and other activities of the authority,” read the notice published by the authority.

KMA had previously canceled three recruitment activities over lack of transparency and thus leaving the position to Cosmas Cherop, who is currently acting as the director general.

In January 12, 2016, high court stopped an interview process after a petitioner went to court claiming that the process was not transparent because a short list had not been published in the local dailies.

“We were about to start the interviews but the order came the same day. Since then we have not heard from the authority until the recent notice,” said Mr Chai who is the director at Ultimate Maritime Consultants and also one of the previous applicants during which the interview was canceled.

Recently maritime authority created a unit within the president's office to enable them push for the full exploitation of the the Marine resources.
