Workers at a Slaughterhouse (mediamaxnetwork.co.ke)The rehabilitation of Athi River abattoir has kicked off, KBC has reported.
The Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) has set aside Sh2.4 billions towards the rehabilitation of the facility to completion.
With just under a month to the August general elections, the commission has embarked on the rehabilitation of the slaughter with the aim of increasing its production capacity in the long run.
The commission is also working on the Kibarani slaughterhouse, which will cost Sh600 million.
Upon completion of rehabilitation the Athi River and Kibarani slaughterhouses will have a capacity of 1000 and 300 head of livestock respectively.
The new move will not only boost the capacity of the two slaughterhouses but also improve the economic status of the regions as well as entire nation.
It is also said that the rehabilitation will see the installation of state of art equipment at both the slaughterhouse to increase the quality of services realized by customers at the end of the day.
Managing Commissioner Joseph Learamo urged the public to support the state in the rehabilitation as the nation seeks to increase its production capacity in the coming years. The rehabilitation of the slaughterhouse will also create more job opportunities for residents.
