The national government has announced that it will pay workers at Kenya Meat Commission(KMC) in Athi River who have been on strike over a pay dispute.

The workers have been on strike for the last one month over delayed salaries and allowances in the past months, slowing down operations at the commission.

Speaking when he visited the commission on Thursday, acting Agriculture and Fisheries CS Aden Mohamed asked the managers of the commission to put the interests of the workers on the first line.

Aden also asked the managers to consider the rights of the workers and also fulfill their agreement with the employees.

The CS said that he had formed a new committee to head the commission and that the salaries and allowances of the workers will be disbursed to their accounts by today.

It is a sign of relieve to farmers and traders who had started counting losses following the strike which ate the better part of April.
