The Kenya Medical Practitioner's and Dentists Union secretary general Ouma Oluga expressed his joy few minutes after he was released from Kamiti Maximum Prison, Nairobi.

Addressing the press at the prison after his freedom, he said his life in prison was familiar to him since he comes from a humble background.

“For me I was born and I have ever remained in the most humble of walks of life, I have no wealthy connections, neither do I have powerful connections. I have lived a low life all my life and therefore the life inside here which is the life of prisoners is so familiar to myself and to my background,” he told journalists.

Oluga noted he interacted with fellow inmates who needed his doctoral services since there were no doctors to help them.

“For us we found a new reason even to help. Even themselves they don’t have doctors, you know. The first day that I was here I slept in the hospital, I don’t know if that was meant for whatever reason but I came face to face with people who really needed me and that was my first duty,” he stated.

“Indeed if I ever stayed here, I think the prisoners would have been happier because at least they would have had a doctor seeing the day to day,'' he added, Wednesday.

A ruling from the Court of Appeal same day, saw all the seven KMPDU officials freed after spending two nights in different jails, for contempt of Court.
