Muslims female students at KMTC in Mwingi have accused the management of the institution of discrimination after they were barred from accessing the school over hijab.
The students claimed that the banning of wearing hijab at the classes come up two months ago when the deputy principal issued the order.
“Our female students have not been able to attend school for the last three days as the management has directed the gatekeeper not to allow them [to enter] in their hijabs,” said Mr. Abdullahi Hassan, a male student.
The male students, too, were not spared as they lament that they are subjected to harassment when they are going through security checks at the gate.
The students have pleaded with the KMTC board to intervene the matter as most of the Muslim female students have not attended the classes for a couple of days.
" Female students are not able to accessed classes since they are not allowed to have a hijab on their head while in class. We are appealing the KMTC board to intervene the matter urgently lest it widens the crisis we are witnessing here," said a male student.
KMTC Board chairman, Philip Kaloki, has ordered the school management to permit the students to enter the facility as they seek to settle the matter amicably.
