Kenya National Commission on Human Rights now want President Uhuru to call for dialogue to resolve the impasse on the controversial amendments on the election laws.
Commission vice chairman George Morara, according to the Star, says the standoff does not augur well for the country as it heads into an election year.
"The Commission is concerned about the unfolding events. We urge President Uhuru Kenyatta to immediately call for dialogue involving all stakeholders with a view to building consensus on disputed issues," Morara said on Saturday as quoted by the Star.
KNCHR has also urged the Senate to suspend its planned debate on the controversial laws to allow room for discussions.
The commission at the same time warned National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale and other politicians to stop their unwarranted attacks on the Judiciary.
"The commission joins Chief Justice David Maraga, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and others in strongly condemning the unwarranted attack on Justice George Odunga by Duale, which is an affront on the independence of the Judiciary," he said.
"We warn Duale and the political class who threaten the judiciary that they risk facing sanctions for violating the leadership and integrity requirements."
