Officials from the Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board (KNEB) toured Busia County on Wednesday to sensitise the leadership of the County on the processes of strategic environmental assessment the board is undertaking.
KNEB Director Philip Mutai said they will move around the country to solicit comments from the members of the public and senior leaders of County governments on the process of environmental strategy that is a legal requirement.
"We are looking forward to partnering with the Busia County Government on the process of Nuclear Electricity Program Unit ahead of the official commissioning of the first nuclear plant in 2027," Mutai said.
"We have held a meeting with the senior leadership of the county and we are satisfied they have given us good information that we need as a board to push forward this program."
Busia County Executive Committee Member for Water, Irrigation and Natural Resources Bernard Yaite said they are ready to work with the board to ensure nuclear projects in Kenya succeed.
"Whatever development comes we are able to protect and conserve environment. I am willing to engage Busia County stakeholders to partner with KNEB," he said.
He added that Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong's administration welcomes all investors to the county.
