According to Chemelil Sugar Academy principal Charles Ogada, the move will ensure that many students register for The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) every year.

He says most students are locked out of exam rooms each year, due to lack of registration fees.

Speaking on Wednesday, Ogada said, “The Exam Council needs to make exams cheaper; of late it is becoming very expensive. They have to create a level playing field for all the schools, if it is too expensive it means only better off schools are able to afford,” said Ogada.

He said this time there’s use of microscopes, and wondered how many schools in the country can afford for instance ten good microscopes.

Currently, form four students are required to pay Sh5,000 in order to register for KCSE exams.

The Chemelil Sugar Academy principal also wished this year’s KCSE candidates all the best, warning them against engaging in cheating in the course of the one-month exam period.

This year’s KCSE exams will officially kick off on Tuesday, October 21 across the country.
