The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) chairman George Magoha has dismissed claims that national exams failed to begin on Tuesday morning in Garissa County.
Mr Magoha said one of the local media had reported that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in Fafi Constituency in Garissa County had failed to kick off as scheduled.
The chairman said the claims are not true adding that the exam was administered smoothly on the first day.
“It's not true that the exam failed to take off in Fafi Constituency in Garissa County as reported in one of the local media,” said Mr Magoha.
Speaking after supervising the start of the KCPE exam on Tuesday, Mr Magoha asked headteachers to inform Knec of any candidate who will not be able to sit the exam for any reason.
He further said reports he received from across the country indicated that exam containers were opened in good time for onward dispatch of papers to examination centres adding that the exam kicked off without any hitch in many counties.
One of the local media had claimed that KCPE examination in Fafi Constituency in Garissa County had failed to kick off as scheduled in five schools in the constituency over security concerns.
