The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has recorded a massive drop in the number of learners who registered for this year's national exams.
According to a statement, only 127,329 candidates have registered for this year's KCPE while 97,720 registered for KCPE.
Knec revealed on Monday that the low registration was a concern and according to acting CEO Mercy Karogo, they are aiming at registering a million candidates for KCPE and 600,000 for KCSE exams slated for November.
Registration began on January 17 and will continue till February 28.
Knec has however said that there will be no extension of the deadline and encouraged people to avoid the last minute rush.
“We are appealing to all candidates to come forward and register. They should not wait until the last minute as it will clog the system,” said Ms Karogo as quoted by Nation.
“Head teachers and education officers are required to log onto the Knec website knec-portal.ac.ke to capture the registration details of the candidates,” added Ms Karogo.
